Napoli McTominay may miss Roma clash as schedule tightens

Napoli face the prospect of forfeiting their upcoming clash with Roma after midfielder Scott McTominay’s medical condition threatens to keep him out, a development that could leave the Italian side short‑handed for a crucial fixture.

Gasperini’s packed calendar

After the long international break, Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma will embark on a series of demanding, close‑quarters games that will test the fitness of the Roman squad. The first away test arrives at the Sinigaglia stadium against Como on October 11 at 12:30 p.m., followed by a high‑profile Champions League tie at the Olimpico against José Mourinho’s Real Madrid.

The Giallorossi’s schedule then continues with domestic matches against Genoa and Slovan Bratislava before the final encounter of the run, a home game versus Napoli. Five matches in less than two weeks will reveal much about the condition of Gasperini’s team.

McTominay’s health dilemma

According to Il Mattino, the former Manchester United midfielder is also set to miss Italy’s next three fixtures against Frosinone, Villarreal and Venezia while he remains on anticoagulants for a mild, benign cardiac arrhythmia diagnosed a few weeks ago. His participation in the match at the Maradona stadium on Saturday, October 24 at 6:00 p.m. remains highly doubtful.

McTominay will be kept away from the pitch for as long as he continues the medication, and the same treatment could force him to miss the crucial Roma encounter, potentially leaving Napoli unable to field a full side.
