Napoli celebrate Scott McTominay’s successful heart surgery
Scott McTominay, the 29‑year‑old Napoli midfielder, underwent a successful ablation procedure on Tuesday in Manchester to correct a mild benign arrhythmia, the Serie A club confirmed on 8 September. The operation, described as a complete success, means he will rest for two weeks before returning to training.

Speaking at a recent awards ceremony, the Scotland international shrugged off concerns, saying: “I’m fine, the procedure was something I’d planned to do with the club for quite a while.” He later confirmed the arrhythmia was mild and non‑serious.
McTominay’s procedure forced him to miss Napoli’s 3‑2 defeat away to Inter Milan last Saturday. He will also be unavailable for the next three Napoli fixtures, including the Champions League opener at home to Arsenal on Wednesday.

Napoli said he will rest for two weeks before returning to training. Max Allegri hopes to have him back for the side’s first game after the international break, when they host Frosinone on 10 October.

McTominay is contracted to Napoli until 2028, having joined from Manchester United in the summer of 2024 for a fee of £25.7 million. He won the Italian title in his first season and was named Serie A Player of the Season.
