Napoli and Lukaku’s agent clash in Italy over his future
The likelihood of Romelu Lukaku leaving Napoli this summer appears to be growing, according to today’s update at 10:41. Sporting director Giovanni Manna and agent Federico Pastello have both spoken publicly about the striker’s future in Italy.
Lukaku, 33, played his final match for the Napoli side in early March, marking the end of his on‑field contributions for the club. Following a disagreement with the club, he trained independently in Belgium during the season to prepare for the World Cup.
Massimiliano Allegri, who succeeded Antonio Conte as Napoli head coach, has remained silent on the issue in recent weeks. Manna, however, has now offered a clearer assessment of the situation.
Manna said, “He has had a good World Cup, but we will have to evaluate the situation,” while also referring to Napoli’s other forwards. He added that the club has heavily invested in Rasmus Højlund and must align its plans, and that Lorenzo Lucca possesses many qualities but must prove himself.
La dello Sport reported that Napoli must choose between Lukaku and Lucca, with one of the two expected to depart. Pastello echoed the urgency in his comments to Sky Sport Italia.
Pastello told Sky Sport Italia, “Can Lukaku be Napoli’s second choice? Of course not. He is an extraordinary player and one of the world’s most productive strikers.” He also noted that last season’s issues were not solely Lukaku’s fault, referring to the dispute over his rehabilitation.
During the recent World Cup, Lukaku featured mainly as a substitute but managed to score three goals for Belgium. The Belgian all‑time top scorer therefore remains a valuable asset despite limited minutes.
Lukaku’s contract with Napoli runs for one more season, meaning the club must decide his fate before the campaign concludes. The ongoing stalemate suggests that a resolution will be required during the summer transfer window.
