Joe Bichsel joins FC Lugano after Saarbrücken exit

Joe Bichsel will leave 1. FC Saarbrücken after failing to agree a contract extension. The 24-year-old defender returns to Switzerland by signing with FC Lugano.

Bichsel spent two seasons at 1. FC Saarbrücken, making 52 appearances. He played 46 times in the 3. Liga and added six Regionalliga Südwest matches.

The Swiss defender’s move to FC Lugano follows a campaign in which he featured 22 times for Saarbrücken. His final tally for the club includes two goals.

FC Lugano confirmed the signing on their official channels. Bichsel becomes their third defensive addition ahead of the new season.

Bichsel joins fellow defenders Arlind Ajeti and Kreshnik Hajrizi at Lugano. The club also added midfielder Kenan Fatkić in recent weeks.

FC Lugano’s transfer activity continues with five new arrivals this summer.
