Moyes stays silent on owner as Everton face transfer turmoil
David Moyes has gone 20 months without speaking to Everton owner and chair Dan Friedkin since taking charge, and on Friday he issued a defiant response to the club’s calamitous transfer window, insisting the setback could galvanise players and fans to achieve something special this season.
Moyes confirmed he has had no contact with Friedkin, founder and chief executive of The Friedkin Group, since he replaced Sean Dyche as manager in January 2025.
Speaking on Friday, Moyes claimed the disastrous end to the transfer window could actually galvanise the squad and the supporters, helping Everton achieve something special this campaign.
The Friedkin Group has come under scrutiny after a summer of player sales that left Everton with a noticeably weaker squad.
TFG president Marc Watts serves as Everton’s executive chair, while Rishi Majithia, Friedkin’s son‑in‑law, handles the owner’s day‑to‑day affairs at the club.
Ownership scrutiny intensifies
Amid the Friedkin Group is seeking fresh investment or even a sale, the club’s ambition is being questioned, and Moyes’s revelation adds further doubt about the owners’ commitment.
The ongoing disconnect between management and ownership presents a clear obstacle for Everton as they aim to turn a bleak transfer window into a season of ‘something special’.
