Moyes says transfer woes won’t derail Everton after United comeback
David Moyes praised Everton’s resilience after a 2‑2 Premier League draw with Manchester United, highlighting Ainsley Maitland‑Niles’s stoppage‑time equaliser as a ‘brilliant goal, brilliant technique’. The late strike preserved the club’s unbeaten start to the season and came despite a week of transfer setbacks.
Manager defends squad amid transfer setbacks
Moyes, the manager, told his players there would be no excuses and they all agreed, insisting the transfer turmoil would not affect the side’s performance. “Everyone has to find a way of making it work,” he said, adding that the atmosphere was the exact opposite of negativity and that the players hugely bought into his message.
He warned that being a player down can sometimes produce the opposite reaction, forcing everyone to be ready for three games a week. “It will be difficult when we have three games a week,” Moyes added, underlining the challenge ahead.
Maitland‑Niles’ debut strike rescues point
Maitland‑Niles, a deadline‑day signing, entered the field in the 77th minute after James Garner withdrew with cramp, and unleashed a 25‑yard strike in the 96th minute to level the scores. The long‑range effort marked his return to English football and secured the draw.
Moyes called the effort ‘brilliant goal, brilliant technique’ and noted that the strike would generate headlines. He also praised George’s goal, which cancelled out a finish from Bryan Mbeumo, while Benjamin Sesko’s attempt was answered by United’s defence.
Deadline‑day signing adds depth despite £4.3m fee
The £4.3m acquisition from Lyon, completed on deadline day, provides Everton with additional options, a point Moyes said was vital given the congested fixture list. He highlighted the signing as evidence that the club will not let transfer difficulties hinder its ambitions.
