Mourinho's Madrid push for Mac Allister can give Gravenberch a chance

Mourinho's Madrid push for Mac Allister can give Gravenberch a chance

Real Madrid have the 27‑year‑old Argentinian midfielder Alexis Mac Allister on their wish list, reports Sky Sports. Coach José Mourinho would like to see the transfer, while a departure of the Liverpool player could be a good opportunity for Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutch international is already fighting for a prominent role at the Reds.

Madrid’s search for a midfielder

The Madrilenians are working behind the scenes on assembling their squad for the coming years, with the midfield being an important focus. According to Sky Sports, Mac Allister is seen as a potential top signing who could immediately assume a leading role.

Mourinho would be a strong advocate for his arrival, despite the presence of players such as Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Arda Güler. However, the club is still looking for a true leader in midfield.

Gravenberch’s position at Liverpool

Ryan Gravenberch finds himself at Liverpool in a direct competition with Mac Allister for a prominent spot in midfield. Currently the two often play together, partly because Dominik Szoboszlai is injured; when the Hungarian playmaker was fit, it often came at the expense of the Dutch international.

If the Argentinian actually leaves, Gravenberch will certainly be a certainty at the Reds. For the Dutch international, interest from Madrid is then an interesting development.

Obstacles to a possible transfer

Mac Allister is still under contract with Liverpool until mid‑2028 and is regarded as an important asset within the squad. Therefore the English club will not be quick to cooperate with a departure.

Real is expected to have to account for a substantial transfer fee if it truly wants to bring in the South American. Moreover, Liverpool, should there be no extension, would demand a high amount for a player they consider integral.

The Argentinian midfielder has been playing at Anfield since the summer of 2023, after Liverpool signed him from Brighton & Hove Albion. Since then he has grown into an important link in the eleven and won the world championship with Argentina in 2022.

The contrasts show that Madrid’s ambition to sign Mac Allister brings both opportunities and obstacles, while Gravenberch could benefit from any shift in Liverpool‑midfield.
