Motherwell's season‑long loan of Alex Lowry fuels Scottish ambition

A season‑long loan sees Motherwell secure 23‑year‑old midfielder Alex Lowry from Wycombe Wanderers, the former Rangers prospect who netted three goals in 24 league appearances for the English League One side last season and last featured on Boxing Day 2025.

[Getty Images] Motherwell manager Alfred Johansson said the club sees the deal as a great opportunity for both Alex and the team, describing Lowry as a technically gifted footballer who enjoys being on the ball, is creative and brings valuable knowledge of Scottish football after meticulous scouting.

Lowry’s record at Wycombe includes three goals from 24 league outings, a modest return that nevertheless demonstrated his ability to contribute in England’s third tier.

He made his Rangers debut in January 2022, went on to feature in 12 games for the Ibrox club and even appeared from the bench in a Champions League match against Ajax.

A loan spell at Hearts during the 2023‑24 season was cut short after 12 starts, after which he joined Wycombe in January 2025, adding further experience in the English system.

Lowry is ineligible for Motherwell’s Thursday Conference League qualifying second‑leg tie away to Havnar Boltfelag, but he welcomed the move, saying it is great to be back up the road, that he can add to the strong squad and looks forward to kicking on this season.
