Monza’s €2.5m gamble for Sweden keeper Zetterstrom
Monza have lodged a €2.5 million offer to Derby County for 28‑year‑old Sweden goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, whose World Cup displays have attracted attention. The Italian side aim to secure the keeper on a permanent deal just days before the Serie A season kicks off.
Goalkeeper depth for Monza
Monza already list Thiam and Pizzignacco among their goalkeeping options. Adding Zetterstrom would give the club a proven starter and a long‑term solution.
Zetterstrom made 33 appearances for Derby last season and has already featured twice this campaign. Standing at 1.97 m, he was handed the number one shirt by Sweden coach Graham Potter at the World Cup. His performance against France in the Round of 32 earned widespread praise.
World Cup form drives €2.5m offer
According to Fabrizio Romano, via TuttoMercatoWeb, Monza want the 28‑year‑old on a permanent deal. The proposal is worth €2.5 million plus a 50 % sell‑on clause on any future transfer.
The move arrives four days before the Serie A season opener. Head coach Ivan Juric could welcome Zetterstrom as a new addition to his squad.
The transfer still requires Derby County’s agreement and a medical before it can be finalised. If completed, the switch would represent a step up from Championship football to Italy’s top flight for the Swedish international.
Zetterstrom joined Derby from Djurgården in August 2024 on a contract running until 2027. He earned the starting role for Sweden at the World Cup, where he impressed against France.
