Monchi sparks controversy by promising the Ballon d'Or to Lamine Yamal

During the presentation of the V Reyes Cup in Seville, Monchi, sporting director of RCD Espanyol, stated that he would award the 2026 Ballon d'Or to winger Lamine Yamal of FC Barcelona, who is already listed as a candidate for the Ballon d'Or AP.
