Monaco's early surge dazzles as Abline's gem lights Ligue 1 showdown

Monaco's 2‑0 advantage at the break against Toulouse on Ligue 1 matchday six reinforces their position at the top of the French top flight and extends their unbeaten run to seven games across all competitions, keeping the club on course for a near‑perfect start to the season.

Early breakthrough

Sofiane Diop, referred to as Edan Diop in the match report, broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, nodding home a close‑range header after Aleksandr Golovin slipped a pass behind the Toulouse defence. The strike gave Monaco an early cushion and set the tone for the first half.

Abline's gem seals lead

Just nine minutes later Matthis Abline produced what the match report called a ‘little gem’, scoring in the 38th minute. After regaining possession in the centre circle, Diop found Abline in the middle of the pitch; the former Nantais turned his back to goal, performed two deft juggles and unleashed a right‑footed cross‑court volley from the edge of the box.

Goalkeeper Guillaume Restes, who had earned his France debut earlier in the week, could not intervene and did not even move as the ball flew into the net. His inaction underscored the precision of Abline’s finish.

Monaco entered the interval with a comfortable 2‑0 lead, maintaining their lead at the top of Ligue 1 after five rounds. The club’s unbeaten streak now stretches to seven matches in all competitions, the only blemish being a disputed draw in Alsace that denied a perfect start.

The Principality side also recently secured victory in the Conference League playoff against Gornik, reinforcing their momentum heading into the domestic campaign. That triumph adds to their confidence as they chase a flawless opening run.

Fans can Suivez the Monaco‑Toulouse encounter live, with a video highlight of Abline’s strike available on the club’s platforms. The goal has already been hailed as one of the season’s most beautiful.

With the points secured, Monaco aim to preserve their unbeaten record and continue their pursuit of the Ligue 1 title as the season unfolds. Their early dominance suggests they are well‑placed to extend their near‑perfect start.
