Molina set for Roma medical and contract after World Cup delay
Nahuel Molina will travel to Italy on Monday to complete his medical tests and finalise his transfer from Atlético Madrid to Roma. The deal, agreed earlier this week, is worth around €13 million plus €4 million in add-ons.
The Argentine full-back’s arrival in Rome has been postponed due to his involvement in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, which Argentina lost. Instead of interrupting his post-tournament break, Roma and Atlético Madrid agreed to delay the move until after the World Cup concluded.
Molina has spent his vacation in Ibiza and is now preparing for the final stages of his transfer. He will arrive in Italy on Monday, undergo medical examinations, and sign his contract with Roma. The club’s head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, confirmed that Molina will be available for training from Tuesday onwards.
This move marks a return to Serie A for the defender, who previously played for Udinese before joining Atlético Madrid. Roma’s decision to sign Molina also resolves a non-EU squad registration issue, as he is set to obtain Spanish citizenship.

The total reported fee for the transfer, including add-ons, places the deal in the region of €17-18 million. However, this figure relates to a separate agreement discussed between the clubs earlier in the week.
Roma’s recruitment team identified Molina as a priority target to bolster their defensive options. His experience at international level and familiarity with European football made him an ideal fit for Gasperini’s system.
The medical and contract formalities are expected to be completed swiftly once Molina arrives in Italy. Roma will then integrate him into their pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign.
Gasperini’s confirmation that Molina will join training from Tuesday underscores the club’s confidence in the deal’s completion. The defender’s arrival adds depth to a Roma squad preparing for the challenges of the upcoming season.
