Missing in Italy: Lameck Banda’s silence fuels transfer rumours

Vandaag, at 09:04, Serie A striker Lameck Banda of US Lecce has been uncontactable for more than two weeks, with the club, its staff and his agent hearing nothing since 13 July despite his five goals and four assists that helped the team avoid relegation.

The Zambian footballer was last seen on 23 July at Lusaka airport, after which the club, staff and his representative have received no communication, and he remained in Zambia during his vacation.

In March, Banda caused alarm when he collapsed during the Napoli versus Lecce clash after a hard blow to his chest, but the injury proved minor and he quickly regained consciousness.

His on‑field output – five goals and four assists – proved decisive in Lecce’s relegation‑escape, as the side won its final two matches of the previous season and finished above the safety line.

Reports suggest Banda is silent to force a move to Saudi club Al‑Fateh, while US Lecce exercised the optional extra‑year clause in the Zambiaan’s contract.

Gazetta dello Sport highlighted the complete break in contact, noting the oddity of the situation, and speculation grew that the silence is a transfer tactic.

Contrasting his disappearance, Banda’s wife has been active on social media, posting images of luxurious hotel lobbies and packed suitcases, yet the player himself does not appear in any of the photos.
