Mislukte Mislintat-aankoop leaves Dortmund’s Ramaj without future

The five‑million‑euro transfer of goalkeeper Diant Ramaj from Ajax to Borussia Dortmund, arranged by Sven Mislintat in February 2025, has now been declared a Mislukte Mislintat-aankoop as his role at the club is definitively over. Today the club confirmed the termination following a report by on Sunday.

When the deal was struck, Mislintat gave Ramaj a contract running to mid‑2029, hoping the 24‑year‑old could eventually follow the footsteps of Gregor Kobel as Dortmund’s first‑choice keeper. The same Sven Mislintat had previously brought the player to Ajax in the summer of 2023.

Since arriving at Dortmund, Ramaj was loaned out twice – first to FC Kopenhagen and later to FC Heidenheim – after his initial move from Ajax. Those loan spells were intended to give him regular playing time while he remained under contract with the German side.

At Heidenheim, Ramaj featured in 31 league matches last season. The club finished seventeenth and was relegated to the 2. Bundesliga, ending a disappointing campaign.

After Mislintat’s departure from BVB, Ramaj’s prospects deteriorated. A potential Kobel transfer never materialised and, Ramaj has made clear he is not willing to wait for a backup‑goalkeeper role.

The latest update the goalkeeper’s stint at Borussia Dortmund is definitively finished, ending a period that began with a €5 million investment from Amsterdam.

For Ramaj, the termination means a free‑agent search for a new club where he can be a starter. For Dortmund, it frees a squad slot and removes the financial commitment tied to a player who will not feature in their future plans.
