Mina’s drive to sign Colombian Quintero fuels Cagliari’s push

Cagliari centre‑back Yerry Mina is actively persuading fellow Colombian international Juan Fernando Quintero to leave River Plate and join the Sardinian club, a move that would see the 33‑year‑old return to Serie A after a stint with Pescara in 2012‑13. Mina has even tagged Quintero on social media as talks progress.

Reports indicate that the Sardinians have already made an approach for Quintero, and interest is growing despite a sizable gap between the clubs’ offers and the player’s demands. The club’s pursuit underscores Cagliari’s intent to strengthen the squad.

Mina was photographed during the Serie A TIM clash between Udinese Calcio and Cagliari at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Italy on February 18, 2024. The image, captured by Timothy Rogers, shows the defender in the midst of the match.

Supporters have welcomed the potential signing, describing the campaign as a not‑so‑secret weapon for the club. Fans believe Mina’s involvement could tip negotiations in Cagliari’s favour.

Mina took to social media to comment on the negotiation process, directly tagging Quintero in his post. The public outreach highlights the personal dimension of the transfer effort.

Quintero, now 33, previously featured in Serie A with Pescara during the 2012‑13 season. A return to Italy would mark his second spell in the league.

He moved to River Plate from CD America in July 2025, and his contract includes a $30 million release clause. The clause sets a clear financial benchmark for any interested club.

Internationally, Quintero has earned 53 senior caps for Colombia and was part of the 2026 World Cup squad, playing in four of the team’s five matches. His experience adds considerable value to Cagliari’s midfield options.
