Million-pound deal in Premier League waits for Cruijff after Steur win

In the meeting room of St. James’ Park, where the scouts of Newcastle United gather, talks are already underway about a new million‑deal. Technical director Jordi Cruijff has already brought in tens of millions for Ajax this summer, and an additional amount could follow this winter.

A look at Ajax’s outgoing transfers last summer shows that two players generated the bulk of the €92 million that entered the Johan Cruijff Arena. Mika Godts and Sean Steur left for the highest fees.

Big amounts for Godts and Steur

Godts delivered a fixed amount of €45 million, with the possibility of additional bonuses. Steur’s move to Newcastle United brought in at least €23.5 million, while Chuba Akpom was also valued at almost €10 million.

According to Chronicle Live, a medium that focuses on the Newcastle region and the Premier League, the club wants to get back in touch with Cruijff. The successful summer collaboration and the positive impact of Steur’s transfer strengthen the relationship between the two parties.

Bouwman: new target for Newcastle

This time it is about Aaron Bouwman, who works under the management of SEG, where Matthias Jaissle – the new manager of Newcastle – is also attached. An official statement reads: “It also fits the club’s strategy to bring young talent to St. James’ Park in the coming years.”

Newcastle is looking for fresh blood in defence and has had an eye on Bouwman since the summer. “The young Dutchman impressed during the qualifying matches for the Conference League and in the opening Eredivisie fixtures of this season,” the club said.

Transfermarkt noted that Bouwman’s market value at the start of last season was €1 million, that it rose to €3.5 million by the end of the 2025/2026 season, and it is now estimated at €8 million – more than double.

Bouwman is contracted until mid‑2030, allowing Cruijff to achieve a new million‑deal. By comparison, Transfermarkt has valued Steur at €7 million since May, while Ajax received more than three times that amount.

In the derby against PSV, Bouwman suffered a bruised sternum and a bruised lung after a hard collision with Ruben van Bommel, who received a yellow card. He returned to training last week, but it is still unclear whether coach Míchel Sánchez can field him this weekend.
