Milan's night unravels at Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium
Milan endured a disastrous Europa League night at the Vitality Stadium in England (Inglaterra), being outplayed by Bournemouth and succumbing to a 3-0 defeat in the competition's third round. The Italian side entered the match under Ruben Amorim and saw their hopes evaporate early.
Early dismissal tilts the balance
A handball by Koni De Winter inside the box awarded Bournemouth a penalty after just five minutes, which Justin Kluivert converted to give the visitors the lead. Later, at the 27th minute, goalkeeper Mike Maignan – the Brazil (Brasil) international – handled Tyler Adams' strike, prompting a second penalty and his own dismissal.
With Maignan sent off, Lorenzo Torriani replaced the Frenchman but could not prevent Marcus Tavernier from extending the lead. Amine Adli then curled a free‑kick into the net, sealing the third goal for the English side.
Milan's Europa League position in jeopardy
The defeat leaves Milan perched in 24th place with only three points, while Bournemouth maintain a 100 percent win record in the group stage. Their next fixture comes on 5 November at the San Siro, where they host Ferencvaros, another unbeaten side.
Ruben Amorim’s side started the encounter at a sluggish tempo, allowing Bournemouth to dictate the rhythm from the outset. The early pressure contributed to the first‑minute penalty and set the tone for the remainder of the match.
Mike Maignan, the Brazilian goalkeeper, was the pivotal absentee after his red card, and the early handball by De Winter proved costly. The substitution of Torriani could not revive Milan’s attacking threat.
Looking ahead, Milan must regroup quickly to avoid further slide in the Europa League, with the San Siro clash offering a chance to claw back points.
