Milan’s €50m gamble on Moreira delayed until Wednesday
Belgian winger Diego Moreira completed his medical with AC Milan on Monday afternoon, but the contract will not be signed until Wednesday morning, the club confirmed.
The Rossoneri have agreed to a fixed €50 million fee for the 22‑year‑old, with performance‑related bonuses capable of raising the total to €65 million. The amount sits close to Strasbourg’s valuation but falls short of the club’s initial €70 million asking price.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Milan outbid RB Leipzig and accelerated the deal after Roma showed strong interest earlier in the window. Strasbourg initially held out for a higher fee before the Milan offer prompted the transfer.
Why Milan pursued Moreira
Moreira can operate as a wing‑back, winger or attacking midfielder across the left flank, a versatility that appealed to Milan’s tactical plans. He emerged from Benfica’s academy, spent a brief spell at Chelsea, was loaned to Lyon, and spent two seasons establishing himself in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg.
Internationally, the Belgian international scored his team’s fifth goal in a UEFA European Under‑21 Championship qualifier against Wales on October 10, 2025 at Rodney Parade in Newport, Wales.
Implications for Milan and the player
The €50 million base fee makes Moreira one of Milan’s most expensive summer signings, alongside Gonçalo Ramos, signalling the club’s intent to bolster its attacking options.
Roma’s earlier interest highlights the competitive market for the player, and the delayed signing underscores Milan’s determination to secure the deal despite rival bids.
Having featured for Belgium at this summer’s World Cup, Moreira joins Milan with experience on the biggest stage, offering the club a young talent ready to contribute immediately after the Wednesday contract finalisation.
