Milan’s €40m pursuit of Goncalo Inacio intensifies as Mendes arrives

Agent Jorge Mendes arrived at AC Milan’s Casa Milan headquarters today, confirming he is negotiating the club’s acquisition of Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio, a transfer expected to cost over €40 million. The deal could see the 25‑year‑old centre‑back join the Rossoneri in the upcoming summer window.

Mendes is also credited with orchestrating the arrival of RC Strasbourg winner Diego Moreira, who completed his medical examinations yesterday and is set to sign an AC Milan contract today. The agent was spotted entering the Casa Milan building this afternoon, confirming his active role beyond the Moreira signing. Moreira, who was part of RC Strasbourg’s title‑winning side, is set to join AC Milan.

Inacio’s credentials

Inacio brings considerable international experience, having earned 22 senior caps for Portugal. He turns 25 next week and is a product of Sporting’s youth academy, highlighting his development within a top Portuguese system. He featured for Sporting in the UEFA Champions League quarter‑finals against Arsenal.

Milan’s defensive overhaul

Milan’s interest intensifies after coach Ruben Amorim reportedly froze out defender Fikayo Tomori, leaving a gap in the back line. Securing Inacio would provide a ready‑made replacement with Serie A‑ready qualities. The club views Inacio as a long‑term solution to bolster defensive stability.

Reports suggest the fee will be at least €40 million, while Inacio’s contract includes a €60 million release clause and runs until June 2030. A cheaper Portuguese alternative, Tiago Gabriel of Lecce, has also been mentioned by Milan’s scouting department. His current deal with Sporting runs until June 2030, ensuring Milan would secure his services for several seasons.

Mendes is also said to be discussing the future of Rafael Leão with Milan’s directors, with Galatasaray and Roma emerging as potential destinations for the forward this summer. Mendes’ involvement shows Milan are also evaluating options for the forward position.

If the deal proceeds, Milan secure a young, internationally‑capped defender while Inacio gains a move to a major Serie A club; Mendes further cements his influence over the Rossoneri’s transfer strategy. The move would also reinforce Mendes’ reputation as a key facilitator of high‑profile Serie A transfers.
