Milan locks in Modric until 2027, reinforcing veteran core
Croatian midfielder Luka Modric has officially signed a new deal with AC Milan, extending his stay until June 2027 after a brief free‑agent spell following the expiry of his previous contract on 30 June. The agreement, confirmed in ITALY, secures the 41‑year‑old Ballon d’Or winner for two more seasons.
Modric has long confessed to supporting Milan since childhood, recalling how he watched fellow countryman Zvonimir Boban play at San Siro. In his first season he made a real impact, scoring two goals, providing three assists and logging 37 competitive appearances, 32 of them in the starting XI, before a fractured cheekbone from a clash with Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli limited his minutes.
He will continue to wear the Number 14 jersey for Milan this season under new coach Ruben Amorim, offering continuity as the club transitions to the new managerial era. Amorim’s appointment underscores Milan’s intent to blend youthful energy with seasoned leadership.

The midfielder entered the 2026 World Cup with Croatia technically without a club because his previous deal had expired on 30 June. He had wanted to wait until the tournament was over to decide not only whether to remain with the Rossoneri but also whether to continue his playing career.
Modric arrived at the Rossoneri last summer as a free agent after 13 years at Real Madrid, immediately becoming a focal point of the squad. He also modelled the new AC Milan kit for the 2025‑26 season, highlighting his commercial appeal.

The contract gives Milan a veteran presence capable of guiding younger players while retaining a world‑class midfielder as he approaches his 41st birthday in September. For Modric, the deal guarantees top‑flight football beyond the World Cup and extends his illustrious career into 2027.
