Milan hold out as Porto’s €15m loan bid for Gimenez falls short
AC Milan have rejected Porto’s proposal for forward Santiago Gimenez, with the Rossoneri deeming the Portuguese club’s €15 million free‑loan offer with an option to buy too low for a permanent departure. The deal, outlined by Fabrizio Romano via MilanNews24, would become an obligation only if specific conditions were met, a clause Milan find unacceptable.
Milan’s €30m investment
Milan signed Gimenez from Feyenoord in January 2025 for a fee reported to exceed €30 million. The club expected the Mexican forward to bolster their attack after a strong season in the Dutch league. Milan view him as a long‑term solution to replace ageing attackers.
Since joining, he has recorded seven goals and six assists across 37 appearances. An ankle injury sustained after the World Cup kept him out of pre‑season, limiting his fitness and form. His contributions have been sporadic, reflecting the lingering effects of the injury.
Porto have secured Gimenez’s personal consent, after the player held talks with head coach Francesco Farioli. His willingness strengthens the Portuguese side’s negotiating position, though a financial agreement remains pending.
Porto’s loan‑with‑option proposal
According to Fabrizio Romano via MilanNews24, Porto’s offer is structured as a free loan with an option to buy for €15 million. The agreement contains a clause that would trigger an obligation to purchase if certain performance conditions are met. Milan consider this structure and the €15 million figure insufficient for a permanent exit.
The Rossoneri rejected the terms outright, stating the amount is too low to sanction a permanent departure. They are pushing for a higher fee that reflects the original €30 million outlay. The club’s hierarchy believes the player’s market value remains above the proposed amount.
Future stakes for both clubs
With Gonçalo Ramos now first choice under manager Ruben Amorim, Porto see Gimenez as a valuable addition to their squad. Milan, however, see little role for him this season and are unwilling to let him leave for what they deem an undervalued sum. Porto will need to improve their offer before the transfer window closes if they wish to secure the forward.
