Milan brace for Estupinan absence as Serie A resumes on October 11
Pervis Estupinan suffered a knee trauma while on international duty with Ecuador, meaning the Rossoneri wing‑back is set to miss Milan’s first Serie A fixture after the break on October 11. The injury was confirmed after he failed to feature in Ecuador’s 1‑1 friendly draw with Panama in the early hours of Monday morning (European time).
Injury details and medical outlook
According to the Ecuadorian federation, Estupinan sustained a knee sprain involving the internal capsulo‑ligamentous structures. The medical assessment and subsequent imaging have been forwarded to AC Milan’s medical staff to ensure continuity of treatment and recovery. he did not take part in Ecuador’s final training session the day before the Panama match.
Impact on Milan’s squad selection
Having started four of Milan’s five Serie A matches this season, Estupinan’s absence could open the door for academy graduate Davide Bartesaghi to return to the starting line‑up. Alternatively, recent summer signing Sankhoun Diawara may be deployed on the left side of a back four, a formation manager Rafael Leao has employed in recent games.
AC Milan’s next league encounter is against Sassuolo on Sunday, the earliest fixture after the international break. With Estupinan ruled out for several weeks, the Rossoneri will have to adjust their defensive options for that match and the subsequent fixtures.
Manager Rafael Leao’s side also faces Europa League commitments against RB Salzburg on October 15, Atalanta on October 18 and AFC Bournemouth on October 22. The timing of Estupinan’s recovery will therefore influence Milan’s options across both domestic and European competitions.
Earlier in the season, Estupinan was involved in a Serie A clash with Torino in Turin on August 23, where he was challenged by Nikola Vlasic. More recently, on September 20, he was contested by Santiago Pierotti of US Lecce during Milan’s home game at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. These appearances underline his importance to the squad prior to the injury.
