Mike Verweij praises German trick, says the Oranje maybe should follow

Mike Verweij understands Denzel Dumfries' frustration after the Oranje's 0‑1 defeat to Germany. He praises captain Joshua Kimmich's clever trick, who kept going while Brian Brobbey was injured on the ground, and suggests that the Oranje maybe should adopt this.

In the Kick‑off podcast, Verweij analyses Kimmich's decision to keep the ball in play. He calls it a ‘clever move’, because Germany did not have to play the ball out.

During the match, Dumfries regularly sought confrontation with Kimmich and was visibly irritated at the opening goal. His behaviour was described by Verweij as understandable.

‘Dumfries dealt with that very well,’ says Verweij. ‘I understand his frustration and it’s good to show that you don’t take it lightly.’

Verweij finds the German choice completely logical and clever, because they did not have to play the ball out. He believes that applying such a tactic more often could influence the result for the Dutch national team.

According to Verweij, Kimmich cannot be blamed; the referee decides whether to blow the whistle. Without a whistle signal, the game simply continues.
