Mika Godts demands equal recognition for Eredivisie performances

At the press conference ahead of the match against France, the Belgian left‑winger Mika Godts made it clear that performances in the Eredivisie should not be considered any less significant by Belgium. The 21‑year‑old, who played a key role at Ajax last season, emphasized the need for equal recognition.

Godts demands equal recognition

He cited former PSV player Johan Bakayoko as an example of a player who, thanks to an Eredivisie title, earned a place in the Red Devils. “When Johan Bakayoko became champion with PSV, he was also called up, rightly,” said Godts.

Godts believed that the nationality of the league should not play a role in selection. “In fact, that shouldn’t matter. If you perform, you perform,” he said.

In his final season at Ajax, Godts recorded seventeen goals and twelve assists in 32 Eredivisie matches. His impressive figures led to a transfer to PSG, for which the club paid up to €55 million.

Godts believes his performances in Amsterdam should be enough to get him on the radar of the Red Devils. “I know that I have my place in the Red Devils. If not now, then hopefully soon,” he explained.

With the move to PSG and his outspoken stance, the young forward hopes to make his debut for the national team soon. His ambition underscores the growing influence of the Eredivisie on the international selection.
