Middlesbrough’s strategic gamble: adding Man Utd Czech keeper Vitek
41 Championship league appearances last season underscored 22‑year‑old Czech goalkeeper Radek Vitek’s readiness as Middlesbrough secured his signing from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee this summer, aiming to boost their squad ahead of the new campaign in the English second tier.
Vitek spent the previous season on loan at Bristol City, where he logged 41 Championship league appearances and gained valuable first‑team experience. During the same period he also featured in pre‑season friendlies for Manchester United.
The move was confirmed by a Getty Images photograph, which provided the required Images] tag and highlighted the excitement surrounding the deal. Vitek becomes the seventh player to join Boro this summer, following the side’s 1‑0 Carabao Cup win over Wrexham.
"The project here is very impressive, because you can clearly see the ambition and where the club wants to go," Vitek told the club website. "The mission is clear: to go to the Premier League. I think everyone at the club has that mindset, and I want the same thing."
Vitek could make his debut for the Teessiders in their Championship opener at home to promoted Lincoln City next Saturday, although Middlesbrough have not disclosed the length of the contract he has signed. The club’s stated mission is promotion to the Premier League.
