Mid‑2028 contract and missed deadline: Joris Kramer aims to stay

Mid‑2028 marks the end of central defender Joris Kramer’s current deal, and the 1 August transfer deadline has already elapsed, yet the 30‑year‑old told De Stentor he expects to remain with Go Ahead Eagles in Deventer for the 2024‑25 upcoming season.

Kramer opened the interview with a clear statement: “I assume I will stay.”

He added that he still harbours the ambition to move a step higher, possibly next year, and he recognised the inherent unpredictability of football.

General director Jan Willem van Dop had previously informed Kramer that he had until 1 August to secure a transfer, a window that has now closed without a move.

Kramer said a move abroad remains an option, but it would require a suitable environment for his daughter and reliable travel connections.

He also noted that Go Ahead Eagles are hesitant to sell him to a rival, because he knows what he has achieved at the club.

While the club works to retain him for the next season, negotiations are under way to extend his current contract, which already runs until mid‑2028, reflecting the Eagles’ desire to keep their “strong player.”

“That is between the club and me. The fact that the club has worked so hard to keep me feels like an honour. It gives me confidence. I know I can also grow in my role as captain,” Kramer said.
