McTominay resumes Napoli training while his October availability remains uncertain
Scott McTominay stepped onto Napoli's training pitch on Friday the 25th, ending a two‑week period of absolute rest after a minor cardiac operation. The Scottish midfielder’s return to the Castel Volturno complex contrasts with the club’s still‑unconfirmed plans for his participation in the October 10 fixture against Frosinone.
Recovery and training routine
Following the surgery to correct a benign arrhythmia, McTominay spent the fortnight with his family before travelling back to Italy on Wednesday. He joined a personalised gym session at the Napoli training centre, a routine captured in a Foto supplied by ANSA / Ansa – Brasil.
Medical staff will conduct further mandatory examinations in the coming days, meaning his fitness level for the upcoming match remains to be verified by coach Massimiliano Allegri.
Allegri also welcomed the return of Brazilian midfielder Giovane, adding depth to the squad. However, goalkeeper Alex Meret, defender Alisson Santos, midfielder Luca Marianucci and wing‑back Leonardo Spinazzola are still listed in the medical department.
Young defender Alessandro Buongiorno is not expected back before 2027, while centre‑back André‑Frank Zambo Anguissa continues physiotherapy, with his recovery timetable to be reassessed shortly.
Napoli’s first five Serie A rounds have produced mixed results – two wins, two defeats and a draw – leaving the side ninth in the table with seven points ahead of the FIFA international break.
The club’s recent form has sparked debate over Allegri’s tactics, but McTominay’s training comeback offers a potential boost if he clears the medical checks in time for the Frosinone encounter.
