Mbappe urges €140m Real Madrid recruit to seize chance
Real Madrid’s €140 million acquisition Yan Diomande, the 19‑year‑old RB Leipzig winger, has struggled to find his footing in Madrid, but Kylian Mbappe insists the French star possesses the quality to thrive.
Summer saga and Real’s decision
The transfer became one of the summer’s headline stories after Diomande’s meteoric rise from obscurity to Bundesliga star. His performances in the Bundesliga attracted interest from several clubs, with Liverpool emerging as the closest suitor, even appearing poised to secure a replacement for Mo Salah.
Ultimately, Real Madrid declared their intent to sign the winger, leaving Liverpool and other hopefuls without a destination. The club’s commitment turned the summer narrative into a single‑track move for Diomande.
Integration at the Bernabéu
Since his arrival, Diomande has found minutes hard to come by, with manager Jose Mourinho yet to trust him as a starter. The lack of game time underscores the challenges of adapting to a new league and a demanding squad.
Mbappe, however, has become his most vocal supporter. “He’s at a stage in his development. Building relationships between the players, as a team, is key. Diomande is part of that right now,” the French forward told Spanish newspaper AS.
“From his first day at Valdebebas, we saw he has quality. People talk a lot during matches about the €140 million transfer fee and all that. He’s young, only 19, but the quality is there,” Mbappe added.
He continued, “We see it, and he’s already shown he has what it takes. We try to protect him, and all the players in the squad, because ultimately we’re going to need everyone. A season is very long, and if we want to compete for all the titles, we can’t compete with just eleven players.”
Mbappe concluded that Diomande’s moment will arrive, urging the teenager to seize any opportunity that comes his way.
