Mbappé swaps Nike for On, shaping future of football gear
French striker Kylian Mbappé, the Real Madrid forward, has terminated his lifelong sponsorship with Nike and signed a new deal with Swiss brand On, becoming its global ambassador. Foto: Disclosure / Jogada10 shows the player in his first On kit, marking a clear shift in his commercial partnerships.
On's expanding football ambitions
On was founded in 2010 as a running‑shoe specialist before diversifying into other sports. In 2019 tennis legend Roger Federer became a co‑owner, adding star power to the company. The brand has recently appointed former France forward Thierry Henry as director of football, and Barcelona midfielder Sydney Schertenleib is also part of the project.
Mbappé’s move follows a recent trend among elite forwards. Lamine Yamal also left Nike and signed with Adidas, showing that top talent is reconsidering long‑standing shoe deals. The shift reflects growing competition among sports brands for football's biggest stars.
Mbappé's role and reactions
Under the agreement Mbappé will act as On’s global ambassador and will take part in developing football‑specific products. He will work directly with the design and innovation teams to shape future equipment.

"From the beginning, what attracted me to On was the opportunity to build something totally new together, which will help shape the game of tomorrow," Mbappé said. "I want to bring my experience and perspective, challenge what is possible through innovation and stay true to the joy of football."
Thierry Henry explained that the project aims to listen to players and create gear that genuinely adds value. "We want to understand what they need and build something that can truly enhance the game," he added.
Mbappé refuses to extend his French career until age 41
On social media Mbappé wrote that he still dreams of playing football and wants to work with people who share his desire to bring players, fans and the game closer together.
