Mbappé's knee hyperextension sidelines him for two weeks

At the Stade de France, Kylian Mbappé celebrated his 71st‑minute strike that secured France's 1‑0 win over Turkey before collapsing with a left‑knee hyperextension, prompting his substitution. Real Madrid confirmed the injury later that evening as the medical team rushed onto the pitch.

Medical assessment and expected lay‑off

Real Madrid issued a brief statement ruling out a serious injury but gave no exact recovery time. Spanish media, however, quoted a ten‑ to fifteen‑day absence. The club’s note said the posterior capsule of the left knee had been hyper‑extended.

Mbappé had scored the solitary goal and was injured at the moment of the finish. He attempted to stay on, but was soon replaced by Desiré Doué.

Mbappé omitted from France squad while injury remains minor

“After the examinations carried out today [Saturday] by the medical department of Real Madrid, a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee was diagnosed,” the club said.

France’s new manager Zinedine Zidane confirmed that Mbappé will miss the remaining three fixtures in the current FIFA window. He added that the striker will leave the national squad while he recovers.

France travel to Belgium on Monday, then host Italy on 2 October and Belgium again on 5 October at the Stade de France.
