Mbappé rules out serious knee injury: ready for the Clasico with Real Madrid

Medical examinations carried out today in Madrid have ruled out serious problems for Kylian Mbappé, the French striker of Real Madrid, diagnosing a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee. The club expects his return to the field for the Clasico on October 25.

The injury occurred during the Nations League match between Turkey and France, when Mbappé scored the go‑ahead goal for France in Kocaeli and, at the end of the play, touched his left knee. The immediate sensation of pain triggered an alarm among the medical staff. The action took place at the end of a counter‑attack, when Mbappé received the ball in the box and finished with precision.

Initially the French Federation described the problem as a “tendinous injury”, authorising the player's return to Madrid for assessments. Real Madrid's statement confirmed the diagnosis of hyperextension of the posterior capsule, emphasising that the condition will be closely monitored. The club's statement reads: “After the examinations carried out today by Real Madrid’s medical service on our player Kylian Mbappé, a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee was diagnosed.”

Recovery time

According to the initial estimates, Mbappé will need to observe a rest period of about 10–12 days. The club expects his return around October 8, two days before the match against Villarreal. During this period the player will follow a targeted physiotherapy programme to regain mobility.

Real Madrid schedule

Real Madrid will face Villarreal on October 10, Roma on October 14, Sevilla on October 18, Leipzig on October 21 and, finally, the Clasico against Barcelona on October 25 at the Spotify Camp Nou. The team hopes to have Mbappé available for all these commitments. The intense schedule makes Mbappé’s availability crucial to maintain competitiveness in La Liga and the Champions League.

Zinedine Zidane commented that Mbappé’s injury “does not look promising” and that the player will have to return to Madrid for treatment. The French number 10 will miss the upcoming national team matches against Belgium, Italy and Belgium again, but he is not expected to miss Real Madrid’s fixtures. Despite his absence from the upcoming international friendlies, his return to the squad is considered a priority for the coach.
