Mbappé clan at the centre of a major police financial investigation

While the French football world focuses on the performances of the Bleus, a police investigation sheds light on the role of Mohamed Sanhadji, alias “Momo”, within the clan of Kylian Mbappé and his mother Fayza Lamari, with flows of more than €300,000 revealed between 2020 and 2024.

Investigation revealed by L’Équipe

Revealed by L’Équipe, the financial and disciplinary investigation conducted by the IGPN places the Mbappé clan at the heart of the investigations surrounding the former security officer of the French Football Federation. Mohamed Sanhadji, an indispensable figure of the France team for more than two decades, is being charged with corruption, fraud and money‑laundering of tax fraud.

Over the years, Sanhadji, known as “Momo”, has become much more than a simple security chief for the Bleus. He has forged close ties with certain French players, including Kylian Mbappé, going beyond the strictly professional scope of the national team.

During the summer of 2023, the police commander's presence alongside the Bondy native on a private trip to Cameroon caused sharp tensions within the General Directorate of the National Police, raising questions about the mixing of public and private roles.

Financial flows between 2020 and 2024

The real shock comes with Tracfin's intervention: a donation of €180,300 earmarked for Kylian Mbappé to benefit five police officers after the World Cup in Qatar caught the authorities' attention. Mohamed Sanhadji captured the lion's share — €60,300 — without declaring it to the tax authorities.

Between 2020 and 2024, the “Bleus” police officer is said to have obtained more than €300,000 from several internationals, combining gifts in kind, paid holidays and pressing financial solicitations.

To finance a real‑estate operation under the cover of fictitious financial difficulties, Sanhadji allegedly requested a direct loan of €120,000 from Kylian Mbappé, paid through Fayza Lamari. The player's mother is also said to have covered the police officer's personal dental expenses.

Messages such as “I will always be there”, “For the family, I will go to war if needed” and “I have waited for the Chosen One all my life, and he is beside me” testify to the closeness between Sanhadji and Fayza Lamari. The officer also helped secure a new residence, facilitate a visa application and arrange urgent hospitalization for a relative.

These revelations triggered targeted raids at the headquarters of the French Football Federation and at Fayza Lamari's home. Charged on 16 September 2026, Sanhadji avoided pre‑trial detention by posting an €80,000 bail and is now banned from working in football.
