Mastantuono breaks his drought in Serie A and Fiorentina keeps shining
Franco Mastantuono, loaned by Real Madrid to Fiorentina, had arrived in Serie A without standing out, but on the visit to Venezia he scored his first two goals in Italian football in just one minute, changing the score in the 29th and 30th minutes.
Mastantuono's resurgence
According to the report by Jordi Archs of International Football, Mastantuono arrived at Fiorentina from Real Madrid on loan, but during his early appearances in Serie A he did not manage to stand out. The Argentinian attacking midfielder had been touted as a quality player, although his initial performances were modest.
Venezia, which had lost its first three matches of the Italian championship, hosted Fiorentina at its stadium. The match was presented as an opportunity for the side of Paolo Vanoli to try to reverse the poor run.
With Paolo Vanoli back on the bench, replacing Fabio Grosso who was dismissed on Sunday, Mastantuono was placed from the start on the right side of the attack. His presence aimed to give greater impetus to the Florentine game.
In the eleventh minute he tried to open the scoring with an inside shot that was deflected by his compatriot Matías Moreno. The play showed the intention of the Argentinian to influence the score.
However, Venezia took the lead in the twenty‑second minute thanks to Akor Adams, a Nigerian striker signed this summer from Sevilla. It was his first goal in Serie A after two in the Coppa, and the goal came without prior control, beating goalkeeper David De Gea.
Mastantuono responded quickly: in the twenty‑nine minute he struck with a chip that grazed the near post, and in the thirtieth minute, on a counter‑attack, he placed another left‑footed shot against the far post, completing a brace in just one minute.
This personal resurgence shows that the talent of the Argentinian can be activated when pressure forces it, and his performance could be key for Fiorentina to improve its situation in Serie A.
