Leicester entered the match still reeling from a 1‑1 draw with newly promoted Notts County a week earlier, and Martin admitted he must improve the way he mentally prepares his side after the one‑time Premier League champions slumped.

Oliver Skipp was sent off in the 29th minute for a dangerous high tackle on Curtis Tilt, leaving the hosts a man down while already two goals behind.

Martin told BBC Radio Leicester, “We have to have some really honest conversations… I take responsibility as a manager, so if I haven't prepared them psychologically well enough, we must look at that.” He added, “One team wanted it during the opening 25 minutes and were hungry. We weren't, definitely not hungry enough.”

Looking ahead, Martin said the club’s focus shifts to a Carabao Cup tie against Ipswich Town and a League One clash with MK Dons on Saturday, stressing that performances will dictate who earns a place.

He promised opportunities for players who show hunger, stating, “I expect some people to come into the team and be really hungry to stake a claim for the shirt… and I expect the guys that played today to really want to put things right and feel better about themselves than they do today.”
