Marseille’s Kondogbia sparred with fan as OM secure rare away win

Marseille returned to winning ways with a 2‑0 victory at Troyes, a rare away triumph that halted a run of defeats and marked Geoffrey Kondogbia’s first appearance since his injury, while the French forward endured a heated confrontation with a supporter before kick‑off.

Fan confrontation before kick‑off

Before the game in the Aube region, a Marseille supporter approached Geoffrey Kondogbia in the visitors' area. The 33‑year‑old asked the fan to respect people, as shown on video. The fan replied, "You're not good, that's all."

The heated exchange was recorded and quickly spread on social networks. In the footage, Kondogbia asked the fan to respect people, after which the supporter retorted, "You’re not good, that’s all." The clip underscored the tension surrounding the match.

Match outcome and implications

The game was the closing fixture of Ligue 1’s sixth round, with Marseille seeking to bounce back after a defeat to Monaco on 30 August. The visitors could not afford any error, as a win was essential to revive their league form.

Kondogbia, back from injury after missing his last appearance on 30 August against Monaco, waited until the 86th minute before making his return on the pitch. His comeback marked his first involvement since the defeat to Monaco.

Marseille secured a 2‑0 victory, their first away win since the home triumph over Strasbourg on 21 August. Amine Harit opened the scoring in the 50th minute, and Himad Abdelli converted a penalty in the 90+8 minute.

Coach Bruno Genesio said the team could have performed better but was satisfied to have returned to winning ways, urging pragmatism. He noted the side were stressed and timid in the first half despite possessing the ball, and said the win should restore confidence.

Looking ahead, OM will host Olympiakos in the Europa League on Thursday before travelling to Angers for a league match on Sunday. Genesio stressed the need for a positive run of results.
