The French side fell 1-2 to Atlético Madrid on Friday, marking the final friendly of their pre‑season schedule. The loss ended Marseille’s preparation ahead of the Ligue 1 campaign.
Gouiri gauges progress against the Colchoneros
For striker Amine Gouiri, the encounter with the Colchoneros was primarily a benchmark to assess the squad’s development. He said the match allowed the team to measure the improvements made during training.
“C’était un bon test, on a rivalisé avec eux, il y a encore quelques détails à corriger,” Gouiri explained after the game. He praised the competitive spirit shown against the Spanish side.
Despite the setback, Gouiri believes the group is moving in the right direction. He added, “On pouvait aller chercher mieux, bien sûr qu’on voulait gagner,” acknowledging the desire for a positive result.
The Algerian forward reminded that the main objective remains to build rhythm gradually as the season approaches. He stressed that incremental progress is more important than a single friendly win.
With only a few days left before the Ligue 1 restart, Gouiri remains optimistic. He concluded, “On bosse bien, ça se voit sur le terrain… On va encore monter en puissance pour bien commencer le championnat,” signalling confidence for the upcoming campaign.
