Marseille give Bruno Genesio free exit as transfer window stalls

In the buzzing RTL studio on Saturday, Dave Appadoo launched a blistering attack on Olympique de Marseille’s manager Bruno Genesio, whose summer arrival on the bench of the Ligue 1 side has already been marred by a barren transfer window and more than ten departures.

Genesio admitted he had not expected a project of such magnitude, yet the summer market offered him no reinforcements while the club saw over a dozen players exit.

Since the window closed, the coach has repeatedly aired short remarks aimed at the board, a habit that has irritated several Ligue 1 observers in France.

The summer market delivered zero signings for Marseille, while more than ten players departed, leaving the squad severely depleted ahead of the campaign.

Appadoo’s tirade on RTL echoed the frustration of many fans, who feel the coach’s comments add little to a situation already strained by the lack of reinforcements. The journalist referred to the coach’s comments as “Les prises de parole”, highlighting the irritation among Ligue 1 followers in France.

‘I’m a bit fed up with Bruno Genesio’s outbursts,’ Appadoo said, adding that the coach’s discourse was audible during the transfer period and that ‘the window has been closed for more than three weeks, so what he says will change nothing’.

He continued, ‘This way of saying someone has to come above me to explain the situation, while insisting the situation is well known, makes me wonder what Frank McCourt can add; I’m a player of Bruno Genesio, we’re in the same boat, and his comments are starting to get on my nerves.’

Colleague Loïc Tanzi echoed the sentiment, stating, ‘He is at a club with a board; if the board’s actions displease him he is free to leave. He can resign tomorrow if he wishes.’

Nevertheless, with the season only weeks old, the likelihood of Genesio walking away now is slim; Marseille travel to Troyes on 11 October at 20:45 for the sixth Ligue 1 round, sitting 17th with four straight defeats but only three points off ninth place.
