Mark Diemers joins De Graafschap with Eredivisie and Division suitors

Midfielder Mark Diemers, 32, has signed a contract with De Graafschap until mid‑2028, returning to the Doetinchem club after an eight‑year absence. The move follows interest from several clubs in both the Eredivisie and the Keuken Kampioen Division, and Diemers says he hopes to achieve promotion with the side.

Broad interest across Dutch leagues

Diemers confirmed that a range of Eredivisie and Keuken Kampioen Division clubs approached him during the transfer window. He said the attention gave him several options besides De Graafschap, but the Doetinchem side ultimately felt the right fit.

"It is all still new, but it also feels familiar. I am super happy to be back and I have a huge desire to get started," Diemers told the club channel. "I hope to achieve promotion. I see a great challenge and I do not shy away from challenges," he added.

The experienced midfielder explained that his initial plan was to leave for Cambuur, where he spent two successful years, but the club failed to secure promotion for specific reasons. He then waited for a move abroad, preferring a European destination because of his two young children, but that did not materialise, leading him to consider Dutch options.

Diemers noted that there were enough clubs willing to sign him, from both the Eredivisie and the KKD. He mentioned that Fortuna Sittard was among the clubs that showed interest before he chose De Graafschap.
