Maresca signals City reshuffle as Shield clash looms with Arsenal
Manchester City have wrapped up their pre‑season friendlies, and Enzo Maresca’s first week in charge now leads directly into the season‑opening showdown. The club’s inaugural competitive fixture arrives next week, a FA Community Shield clash against Arsenal that also offers the first trophy on the line.
The friendly programme concluded without further matches for Manchester City. From the following week the team will contest the FA Community Shield, the first official title they can claim this season, with Arsenal as their opponents.
Maresca, only weeks into his tenure, is already juggling a flurry of transfer rumours and squad decisions. Several players are reportedly training separately from the main group as the manager assesses his options.
One name repeatedly mentioned is Rodri Hernández, who is expected to report back on Friday.
Another focal point is 27‑year‑old Omar Marmoush, who joined City in January 2025 from Eintracht Frankfurt for €75 million. The Egyptian forward has struggled to settle, is seeking more playing time, and clubs such as Tottenham and Newcastle have shown interest.
Maresca explained his philosophy, saying, “The players work every day, they want to play, so when they don’t play they are not happy.”
