Maresca hails Samba’s debut as City’s new attacking spark

Under the bright lights of Etihad Stadium on Thursday, Floyd Samba burst onto the first‑team scene, delivering a performance that left manager Enzo Maresca beaming with pride. The 18‑year‑old completed the full 90 minutes against Norwich United, showcasing the energy that earned him the man‑of‑the‑match accolade.

Academy roots and youth triumphs

Samba entered Manchester City’s academy at under‑nine level and began to attract attention last term. In his first full season with the under‑18s he netted 24 goals and supplied 10 assists, a tally that helped City clinch the FA Youth Cup final against rivals Manchester United in May, where he curled home a stunning free‑kick.

Debut brilliance against Norwich United

On his senior debut, Samba opened the scoring with a flicked header before delighting the crowd with a second, curling finish later in the game. After the first goal he blew a kiss toward family and friends in the stands, a gesture that drew a generous ovation from the crowd.

Manager Enzo Maresca praised the youngster, saying, "[I’m] satisfied not just for the goals but for the performance too." He added that although Samba was deployed as a nine, the forward is far from a traditional striker, highlighting his energy, strength and decision‑making.

Maresca concluded, "They are young and we have to go slowly, slowly. Hopefully we can give him more chances." The debut not only marked a personal milestone for Floyd Samba but also signalled Manchester City’s willingness to trust its youth prospects in the senior squad.
