Maradona Stadium: €203 million for the restyling, works from 2027

The restyling project of the Diego Armando Maradona stadium has been confirmed with a total investment of 203 million euros, of which 50 million have already been approved by the Naples municipal council. The start date for the works is set for July 2027, with the aim of completing the new facility by 2030, before the deadline set by UEFA for the 2032 European Championship.

Funding and work schedule

According to Repubblica, the remaining 150 million will be formalised next week by the Region, while 3 million have already been spent on the design phase. The Sports Minister, Abodi, highlighted the importance of adhering to the intervention plan to turn the projects into operational sites.

The project includes the redevelopment of the area in front of the Engineering department on via Claudio and the entrances of the B curve and the stands. The FIGC has already sent UEFA the complete list of candidate stadiums, which includes Naples together with Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Florence, Genoa, Lecce, Milan, Palermo, Rome, Salerno, Turin and Verona.

In the meantime, the FIGC has also evaluated the Salerno project, where works on the Arechi have already begun, but the requirements to host the European Championship remain stringent, keeping Naples in pole position alongside Rome, Milan and Turin.
