Mancini weighs Vergara for Italy‑Turkey: temptation from the minute
On Sunday afternoon, the Dall'Ara in Bologna is set to host the match between Italy and Turkey, while head coach Roberto Mancini is considering possible changes for the Azzurri, including the selection of Antonio Vergara, a young Napoli striker, as a starter.
Mancini has reviewed the national team's recent performances and, ahead of the fixture, has hinted at possible tweaks to the starting eleven, assessing the contribution of fresh players to keep the competitive level high.
Among the most interesting options is the inclusion of Antonio Vergara, the young Napoli talent, who could earn a starting shirt in the lineup against Turkey.
Vergara, Mancini's temptation
‘In attack, the temptation Vergara is strong: the youngster who is so liked by Allegri at Napoli gave a nice burst of adrenaline at Saint Denis once in the contest and, above all, is rested compared to the rest of the squad,’ said Roberto Mancini during the press conference.
Italy beats Turkey but Samuele Inacio stays on the bench: future uncertain
According to him, Vergara is considered one of Mancini's main temptations for the upcoming Nations League commitment, thanks to the impact he displayed against France.
Other faces in the running
On the right flank, the names Cambiaghi and Maldini are in contention, while Scamacca remains the main candidate to lead the Azzurri attack. Between the posts, Donnarumma should be confirmed, and the central duo could feature Bastoni and Mancini, with Scalvini ready to challenge the latter.
On the left wing, Ruggeri appears favored over Calafiori. In midfield, Barella should be on the pitch from the first minute, with Romano and Doumbia ready to replace Tonali, marking a clear renewal of the unit.
Vergara forced to leave, availability for Napoli remains unknown
Mancini aims for a significant rotation to manage energy levels without compromising the team's quality, aware that Turkey is an opponent to be approached with caution; Vergara's potential debut from the first minute would represent one of the most anticipated novelties of the evening.
