Manchester United revive interest in Murillo as price tag looms

Manchester United have placed Brazilian centre‑back Murillo back on their 2027 monitoring list, signalling renewed interest in the 24‑year‑old defender. The Red Devils first eyed him after his performances for Nottingham Forest, but any move now hinges on a sizeable offer because he is tied to the City Ground until 2030.

From Corinthians to the City Ground

Murillo joined Nottingham Forest from Corinthians in 2023 and settled quickly in Inglaterra. He has become a regular at the City Ground, amassing 120 appearances for the club. His tally includes four goals and three assists, with 98 of those matches coming in the Premier League.

The defender signed a new deal that runs to 2030, meaning any interested club must meet a substantial price tag. Nottingham Forest face no immediate pressure to sell, so a January transfer is unlikely. Only an "enormous" offer could shift the club’s stance.

Long‑term contract inflates price

Manchester United are already planning to add at least one centre‑back in 2027 as part of a broader defensive refresh. Murillo’s familiarity with the Premier League removes the adaptation risk that typically accompanies new signings. This makes him an appealing target despite the financial hurdle.

"It will be a very difficult deal because he signed a new long‑term contract," said journalist Pete O'Rourke. "I don't see anything happening in January as Forest doesn't need the money and he is a very important player."

Since arriving in England, Murillo has featured in 13 Europa League games and earned a call‑up for the Brazilian national team, though he has yet to make his debut under Carlo Ancelotti. His experience and age, at 24, explain why his name resurfaced on the Red Devils' radar.

The contrast between United’s defensive ambitions and Forest’s firm stance highlights that Murillo is no longer a cheap prospect but a player whose price reflects his established role at the City Ground.
