Manchester United overturns Roma with a decisive brace

Manchester United finally turned the tables on Roma at Old Trafford, winning 3-2 after nine games without a win, thanks to a brace from Matheus Cunha in the final minutes. The decisive goal was followed by a red card for the same player, sealing the Red Devils' victory.

The Giallorossi quickly took the lead, opening the scoring in the eleventh minute thanks to Matías Soulé, who took advantage of a cross from Rodrigo Mora to beat Lammens. Six minutes later, Ayden Heaven was penalised for a handball in the box, giving Donyell Malen the penalty which he converted in the seventeenth minute, making it 2-0.

The Red Devils' comeback

Early in the second half, Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty in the fifty-eighth minute, cutting the deficit to 1-2, before Bryan Mbeumo hit both posts in the fifty-ninth minute, missing a chance to get back level.

Matheus Cunha then equalised in the 83rd minute, taking advantage of a poor challenge from Leonardo Balerdi, then scored the winning goal in the 86th minute, before being sent off with a second yellow card in the 90+1 minute. Despite the Roman attacks, the score remained unchanged and Michael Carrick was not dismissed tonight.

Roma's line-up (3‑4‑2‑1) were Vasquez, Hermoso, Balerdi, Mancini, Wesley, de Roon, Cristante, Rensch, Soulé, Mora and Malen, under the direction of coach G. Gasperini.

Manchester United (4‑2‑3‑1) lined up Lammens, Dalot, Heaven, Maguire, Yoro, Mainoo, Baleba, Cunha, Fernandes, Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo, with M. Carrick as coach.
