Manchester United eye Crystal Palace left‑back as Dortmund striker looms

Manchester United are keen to add Crystal Palace left‑back Tyrick Mitchell to Michael Carrick’s squad, while a Borussia Dortmund striker also features on their January watch list, a report confirms.

Midfield overhaul leaves defensive void

United reshaped their midfield this summer, signing Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. Yet they chose not to bring in a left‑back to challenge Luke Shaw, leaving a clear gap in defensive depth.

At the same time, the club failed to secure a new centre‑forward after Joshua Zirkzee’s departure, prompting the search for a replacement up front.

Targeting experience and potential

Mitchell, who has entered the final year of his contract, is attracting interest from United, Liverpool and other Premier League sides. Palace are reportedly doing everything they can to retain the English defender, whose consistency and Premier League experience are praised by sources.

United also keep tabs on several other left‑backs, including Alejandro Balde and Jorge Salinas, after missing out on Lewis Hall from Newcastle.

On the attacking front, United are assessing a January move for Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy. The Guinea international has recorded four goals and two assists in six matches this term and first appeared on United’s radar in 2023.

Guirassy’s contract runs until June 2028, meaning a free transfer could be possible next year if he does not renew. United see him as a potential replacement for Zirkzee rather than moving on from current striker Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko, who recently withdrew from the Slovenia squad due to a shin‑injury recurrence, underwent an MRI scan in London on Monday. The 23‑year‑old missed United’s 1‑1 draw with Fulham and will remain sidelined through the international break, with his return date still unknown.
