Manchester United enjoys carefree evening in Champions League season

Manchester United opened the Champions League season with a carefree evening at Old Trafford, where the Red Devils overwhelmed League debutants FK Sabah 4-0. After a slow start, Michael Carrick’s side broke the pressure after half an hour and quickly put the score at three, before the final result became 4-0.

The first goal came from a cross by Patrick Dorgu, who neatly tapped Matheus Cunha into the first post: 1-0. Sabah responded dangerously shortly after; Joy-Lance Mickels headed a ball that landed just beside the post, but the home side held onto the lead.

Breakthrough in the first half

Youri Tielemans recorded his first assist for Manchester United by laying the ball off for Bruno Fernandes, after which the captain calmly slotted the ball in for 2-0. Just before halftime, Benjamin Šeško, after a pass from Bryan Mbeumo, scored the third goal; he bypassed the goalkeeper and shot into the empty net for 3-0.

In the second half, substitute Joshua Zirkzee produced a chip shot that surprised Stas Pokatilov, bringing the score to four nil. Lisandro Martínez then struck the final ball into the net, while Orphe Mbina headed just beside the goal line, leaving the final score unchanged.

According to French reporting, the right flank of Manchester United was the strongest point; Mazraoui and Bryan Mbeumo tried to unsettle the defence of the Azerbaijani champions, but Pokatilov and his defenders remained alert. The Red Devils closed the first half with three goals and left Sabah without a chance to earn a point.

The victory confirms that Manchester United have delivered a carefree start to the Champions League season, without any pressure from the League debutants and with a convincing collective performance.
