Manchester United considers Carrick's future after eight defeats

Manchester United has held a crisis meeting about the future of manager Michael Carrick. The English club icon has so far won only one of the eight Premier League matches played and is under enormous pressure, says Gary Neville, after a recent defeat to Bournemouth.
Crisis meeting and poor run
The Manchester United board has organized an internal meeting in the short term to assess Carrick's position. After the defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, United have now gone eight games in a row without a win, a run that is making the fans dissatisfied.
The current statistic – one win in eight Premier League matches – is the worst since the 2015/16 season. Moreover, two crushing defeats followed within one week, causing the pressure on Carrick to increase exponentially.
Media and successors
reported that the expectation within the top of Manchester United is that Carrick will be dismissed. Names such as Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte are mentioned as possible successors, while the BBC wrote: “The end is approaching for Carrick, but Manchester United fans are making clear who they blame.”
emphasized that United “are just above the relegation zone” after the “worst season start ever in the Premier League”. The Telegraph added that “He is about to be dismissed”. These media reports underline the urgency of a decision.
Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have already cautiously taken an advance on the possible dismissal. In an interview Carragher said: “It is not unusual for Carrick to clap at the Manchester United crowd, but his gestures were this time less pronounced than in Como, after an equally devastating defeat.”
Erik ten Hag, who was recently questioned in an interview with VI, was asked whether a new manager can solve the problems at Old Trafford. He warned: “If anyone in the board thinks that the problems can simply be solved by replacing the head coach, the reaction from the stands proves otherwise.”
Manchester United has until Saturday 31 October to recover, after which a match with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge follows. The coming days will determine whether Carrick retains the helm or the club takes a new direction.
