Manchester United and Arsenal battle for Bayer striker Christian Kofane
Manchester United have entered the race for 20‑year‑old Christian Kofane, signalling a desire to add a young striker with Champions League experience to their attacking options. Arsenal are also reported to be among the clubs monitoring the Cameroon international, intensifying the competition for his signature.
Early career and Bayer Leverkusen debut
Kofane made his professional debut in Spain with Albacete in January 2025, netting eight goals in the Segunda Division that season. His performances prompted Bayer Leverkusen to snap him up in the summer of that year, moving the forward from the Spanish league to the German Bundesliga.
In his first season in Germany, the 6‑foot‑2‑inch striker featured 44 times across all competitions, including 11 Champions League outings. He scored seven goals, a modest return but enough to attract attention from several Premier League clubs.
Premier League interest and contract situation
Beyond United and Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Everton were linked with Kofane over the summer, while his agent Eric Depolo also mentioned Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea as tracking his client. Depolo told Daily Arsenal in April that Arsenal were certainly keen, citing the player’s Spanish fluency and the presence of William Saliba, who is originally from Cameroon.
German publication SportBild reported that Manchester United have become the latest high‑profile suitor for Kofane. The United interest adds to the growing list of clubs eager to secure the forward’s services.
Kofane himself said in August to that he is not in a rush to join a Premier League side, insisting he wants to take his development step by step. He praised Bayer Leverkusen as a great club that has given him confidence and comfort, but reports suggest talks over a contract extension have stalled, opening a window for potential moves.
On the international stage, Kofane has earned seven caps for Cameroon, scoring two goals. If he makes the leap to England in 2027, it would represent a rapid rise from his beginnings at Albacete, who signed him from Cameroonian academy AS Nylon in November 2024.
Albacete issued a statement on his departure, acknowledging that the club believes it was the best environment for Kofane’s growth while wishing him success at Bayer Leverkusen and keeping the doors of the Carlos Belmonte open for his return.
