Manchester City under fire, Klopp remains impassive
As the proceedings against Manchester City continue to fuel debate, Jürgen Klopp, now manager of Germany, appears completely detached, showing no concern about a possible title recovery by Liverpool’s Reds and the potential sanctions that could affect the English club’s titles.
Independent commission condemns Manchester City
An independent commission met on Tuesday and found Manchester City guilty of 114 of the 115 financial offences it was accused of between 2009 and 2018. This decision marks the near‑totality of the accusations brought against the club over almost a decade.
Potential sanctions could have heavy repercussions on several titles won by the Sky Blues. The London club could see some league titles or cups called into question, depending on the severity of the penalties imposed.
Liverpool’s Reds could also be affected, particularly for the 2018‑19 and 2021‑22 seasons, when they finished second in the league. Those years coincide with the periods when Manchester City’s accusations were raised.
Klopp remains indifferent to the controversy
When asked about the matter, Klopp chose to distance himself from the proceedings and said he is turning his back on a possible parade. He affirmed that he no longer thinks about it and is staying out of the debate.
"I haven't really thought about it, but of course, I've noticed the situation. I also remember what I said: 'If there ever is a parade, I'll be there.' I don't really feel that anymore. It's not that I think a parade must absolutely be organised. I can simply step back and wait for it to happen," he explained.
The new German manager, however, praised Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, despite the historic rivalry between their teams. "I have immense respect for Pep Guardiola and for the football played by Manchester City at the time we faced them. The style of play they deployed on the pitch, the type of opponents they represented for us," he added.
"If sanctions are handed down, I'm not responsible for that. And that's why I'm waiting to see what will happen. The legal process has been going on for a long time; I suppose there will be an appeal, which will take forever. (…) To be honest, it doesn't really interest me," Klopp concluded. He hinted that he will simply watch the development of the case.
