Manchester City under accusation, Donnarumma's future is in limbo
On one hand Manchester City is at the centre of an international case for alleged breaches of 115 Premier League Financial Fair Play rules; on the other hand the Italian goalkeeper Gigio DONNARUMMA could see his future in Serie A reopen if the English club faces heavy sanctions.
Manchester City case and Fair Play accusations
The English club is accused of breaching 115 Premier League Fair Play rules. Manchester City's hierarchy continues to proclaim its innocence, but the possible sanctions range from a fine to a spectacular relegation. If the most severe punishment were to materialise, many players could decide to leave the club, including the Citizens' goalkeeper and Italy's.
Juventus and Inter's options for the goalkeeper
Before moving to City, Donnarumma had been considered by Juventus and Inter, but the costs of the deal were deemed excessive. Today his contract with Manchester City runs until June 2030 and his salary is around €15 million, a figure higher than the €12 million he earned at PSG. A return to Italy would require a clear reduction in wages, but City’s situation could make the market a realistic possibility.
Inter count on Calha's return as Serie A restarts on Saturday
In Italy, Juventus remains on standby: the goalkeeper situation for the 2027/28 season is uncertain, because for Vicario and Grabara (out until the end of the season due to injury) there is a buy‑back right but no obligation to purchase permanently. The management will decide whether to make them long‑term starters.
Inter have promoted Josep Martinez to starter, with Provedel as backup, but do not rule out attempting a move for Donnarumma should a transfer window open. The club’s interest is therefore genuine, although the decision will depend on the development of the City case.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has tried to contact the goalkeeper, but at the moment there is no openness on his part. The combination of these variables makes Donnarumma’s path uncertain in the coming months.
